My artwork deals with the human body: In part and in whole, inside and out…and beyond. In an effort to understand the functions, mechanisms and responses of the body, my work has been developing into an ongoing series, "Anatomic." Most of my work is in some way influenced by my own experiences with several spinal surgeries and many years of struggling to overcome cluster headaches.

I am often struck by the dichotomy of life and of being alive. Life hurts. Let's face it. It's what we do with the pain that interests me.

Medical diagnostics such as x-ray, MRI and CT scans reveal the structure of malfunction and pain, or lack thereof. The qualities of the human body revealed by these tools shed a completely different light on the depth, structure and function of the elements of the body. Without the familiar envelope, the figure takes on a multi layered and complex abstract appearance. X-ray film, in particular, provides an almost Cubist view of the inside of the body; collapsing and distorting inner space in a way that is only hinted at by the transparency of skin or a fingernail.

In all my work, I utilize a layered, under painting technique. I leave all my mistakes. This, to me, provides a rich and multi textured finished product, one that resembles the body structurally. Experimentation with the juxtaposition of scale and proportions is reflected in my conceptual, figurative, and sometimes, metaphysical abstract works.
